Why A Phone Call Is Not Enough

How often do you call or text seniors? If you don’t, then you should start now. The elderly population is growing every year, and they are becoming more tech savvy. They want to stay connected and engaged with their family and friends.

Seniors are more likely to get lonely and isolated because of the lack of social interaction. This makes them vulnerable to depression and other mental health issues.

If you have old parents, grandparents, or someone you love living alone, a phone call visit is not always enough. While a phone call is important, nothing beats actually observing your elderly loved ones living conditions. Elderly people will sometimes hide things from you. Every parent has a desire to never let their children worry, so they will sometimes not tell you the truth about their home life or that they need a little help.

Video calls have made things simpler. You can see each other whenever you want via video calls on Skype, Facetime or other video calling services. But this is also not enough. Seeing you on video call might give your elderly parents a moment of joy; however, they still want to feel your presence and warmth near them.

What can you do for your loved ones living alone?

  • Visit them regularly.
  • Take them out for dinners.
  • Spend time with them.
  • Plan your holidays with them.
