Using Smart Devices To Keep In Touch With Seniors

How often do you check in with your grandparents? If they live far away or even passed away, chances are you don’t get to see them very often. But thanks to modern technology, you can stay connected with them through video calls, texts, and emails. With the rise of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, it has become easier to connect with friends and family members across the globe. These devices allow you to send messages, photos, and videos at no cost.

Nothing can take the place of visiting your seniors living alone, as the warmth of your love and support can only be felt by being around them. But living in different parts of the world makes it impossible for one to regularly visit their elderly parents or grandparents. While an occasional visit or yearly meetups can still work, they are generally not enough.

Rapidly growing technologies can make it easier to stay connected despite a busy life schedule. How can you use smart devices to keep in touch with your seniors? The following are some easy ways to stay in touch:

  • Instant messages: Everyone is busy with their work, but dropping a text takes almost no effort. If you can't keep up with calls, make sure to always text your old parents or grandparents to let them know you are thinking of them. You can send short video clips which helps to keep them engaged.
  • Alexa or Smart Device calls: If you can set up a smart device in your loved ones home, you can easily connect to them anytime. “Drop in” and say hi use device to device protocols.
  • Video chats: Video chats work great, whether its Facetime or another vide chat service. You can also use Alexa or Facebook’s video devices to check in as well.
  • Social media: Elders are less apt to use social media but keeping them updated with your family pictures can really help keep them engaged. Once they know the basics they can really take advantage of the technology to stay in touch with you or friends.

While the above is great, there is always a need for someone to physically check in on your elderly loved ones. There really is no other way to see what is really happening or to give them a helping hand when necessary.  Elder Friends Concierge Services, LLC.  offers independent living services: Wellness Checks, Transitional Care, Home Organization, Pharmacy Pick Ups, Snowbird Home Care, Grocery Shopping, and Notary Services.
