Preparing For Assisted Living

Senior citizens have unique needs when they move into assisted living. Finding the right assisted living facility for you or a loved one can be difficult. Read on to learn more.

Assisted living is gradually becoming a need for elders and seniors as young people are getting a lot busier in their work lives. Living in assisted homes can be beneficial for seniors as living in a community with people in similar situations gives them the emotional support they need. But how to prepare them for assisted living? Here are some tips that can help you.

  • Empowering

Let your elders and seniors decide what assisted community they want to go to, what they want in their assisted home, how they want to design, how they want to decorate, and any other decisions that can make them feel part of the process. Being closely involved helps them in setting their mind for the shift to assisted living. Give them a chance to choose and decide things on their own, so they do not feel like everything is being imposed on them.

  • Visiting

Before they move in, visit the place often. Let them get acquainted with the place, its staff, and other people who live there. It will be helpful for them to make bonds and friends in their new home so moving can be exciting for them.

  • Home-like feeling

While preparing for assisted living, make sure to decorate their place like home with your love, warmth, and support so they can have a pleasant and calm environment. You can set up your memories together, such as family pictures, which brings a sense of familiarity.  Let them decorate the place with their belongings to feel a home-like presence and not feel alone or sheltered.

  • Spending time

Moving out can be hard for you and them also. The best thing to overcome this hard feeling is to spend time together. After moving to assisted living, you can spend time walking in parks, having conversations, or occasionally taking them out on dinners to keep the bond strong.

New environments are scary for anyone, and it’s no different for the elderly population. Keeping a strong bond while they are in a home will help ease that transaction. At Elder Friends Concierge Services, LLC we can help you with the transition. If your loved one chooses to stay in their home, we can help with that too!
